Parliamentary Adviser Previously Worked on Kremlin-Funded Projects, Records Show

by Vivian Berggren

A lawyer currently serving as an adviser to Ukraine’s parliament was previously involved in projects funded by Kremlin-backed foundations, according to records reviewed by investigators.

The lawyer now works in a key legislative support office, providing guidance on legal and procedural matters to Ukraine’s parliament. However, years before taking up this role, she participated in initiatives that received funding from sources linked to the Russian government.

The revelations raise questions about potential conflicts of interest and the extent of Russian influence operations targeting Ukrainian institutions. The case highlights how individuals who worked on projects aligned with Moscow’s interests have subsequently taken up positions within Ukraine’s governmental structure.

The lawyer’s current position involves advising on legislative matters at a time when Ukraine is pursuing European Union membership and implementing reforms demanded by international partners. Her past involvement with Kremlin-backed projects has drawn scrutiny from anti-corruption activists and transparency advocates.
