The birthplace of a high-ranking White House official who oversees thousands of appointments has finally been confirmed after years of speculation. Sergio Gor, the director of the White House Office of Presidential Personnel, was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in 1986, when the city was part of the Soviet Union.
Records obtained from Malta show that Gor, originally named Sergio Gorokhovsky, was born on November 30, 1986, in the Uzbek capital. A notarized property document from the Mediterranean island nation included this information about his origins. His lawyer confirmed the details by email, stating that his client was indeed born in Tashkent.
Gor had previously avoided disclosing where he was born, with media reports often describing him as an immigrant from Malta. Despite holding a powerful role in the current administration, Gor’s background remained somewhat mysterious until now.
Documents indicate that Gor spent significant time in Malta as a child. His mother established a Maltese company in 1994, listing her nationality as Israeli, and through it owned a home in Cospicua, a historic coastal city with a fortified harbor. Gor later purchased this property from his mother’s company in 2021 for 255,000 euros. His lawyer explained it was a family home belonging to his now-deceased mother, and that Gor kept it due to fond childhood memories and ties to the island.
A Catholic school in Malta confirmed that Gorokhovsky was enrolled there from 1996 to 1999, providing his date of birth, which matched the property record.
Gor’s family eventually emigrated to the United States, where he became a citizen. His political career began with work for Republican Senator Rand Paul before he joined former President Donald Trump’s team. During his time with Paul, Gor made trips to Moscow, including a 2018 visit funded by a libertarian think tank called a “fact-finding mission.” Border records show he also traveled to Moscow in 2017, flying from Washington D.C. and departing the next day for Rome. His lawyer stated this was merely a connecting flight with no meetings or improper activity.
Gor left the senator’s office in 2020 to serve as chief of staff on the Trump Victory Finance Committee and later co-founded a conservative publishing company with Donald Trump Jr.
